The Scarce Brindle (Apamea lateritia) is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in most of Europe, east to Siberia and Japan. It is also present in Turkey, northern Iran, Afghanistan, northern Pakistan, Nepal and China (Guangxi, Sichuan). It is a sporadic migrant in Great Britain, where it is recorded from the east and south-east coast.
The wingspan is about 42-50 mm. Adults are on wing from June to August.
The larvae feed on the rootstock of various grasses. Recorded food plants include Festuca species and Nardus stricta.
